Who We Are

Our mission is to prevent adolescent targeted violence, increase school safety, and support communities through evidence-based intervention, community consultation, education, and research. We are a multi-disciplinary team with expertise in mental health, law enforcement, education policy, case management, and mentorship. We have a Hub team based out of MSU and our regional teams are throughout the State of Michigan. In our Intensive Support Team Regions, we offer intensive case management and mentorship for adolescents who have made a threat of targeted violence against their school. We also offer entity to entity consultation on the management of individuals who have made threats of violence as well as providing best practice considerations for community resource navigation for mental health and law enforcement support.

What We Do

Prevent 2 Protect is a unique program that draws upon the expertise of mental health providers, law enforcement and educators, to provide a research-to-practice hub located in MSU’s Department of Psychiatry. Psychiatrists, law enforcement experts, resident physicians, allied health professionals, educators, and targeted violence prevention experts support community-based intensive support teams, provide consultation, training, technical assistance, and conduct research to inform school violence prevention policies and practices in Michigan and nationally.
