The Eastside Community Action Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit service organization dedicated to providing basic human services to the vulnerable, at-risk community, as well as offering innovative programs, services and initiatives that aim to remove institutional barriers to self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life for Lansing residents of all ages.


As a Food Pantry Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and compassionate operation of our food pantry program. Your responsibilities will include assisting clients, organizing and distributing food items, maintaining inventory, and contributing to the overall functioning of the pantry. A compassionate and empathetic approach, along with strong organizational skills, will be key in creating a positive experience for our community members in need.


Position Responsibilities

  • Greet and interact with clients in a friendly and respectful manner, providing assistance and information about available food items.
  • Collaborate with volunteers and staff to sort, organize, and stock food items, maintaining an orderly and well-presented pantry space.
  • Packing of food boxes for clients based on their needs.
  • Ensure accurate record-keeping of client visits and the distribution of food items.
  • Help maintain inventory levels by monitoring stock, tracking expiration dates, and managing replenishments.
  • Collaborate with team members to coordinate food drives and special distribution events.
  • Maintain a clean and safe pantry environment, following health and safety guidelines.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to clients, addressing inquiries and concerns with empathy and professionalism.
  • Assist with data entry and administrative tasks related to pantry operations.
