The South Lansing Farmers Market increases access to healthy food, supports our local economy, and inspires pride in our community by providing a vibrant gathering space where consumers purchase fresh, affordable, nutritious foods directly from local growers and producers who then recirculate their income back in our community. The market is fully accessible, which ample on-site parking. There is a CATA bus stop onsite, and we are kid-, bike- and pet-friendly. All vendors selling eligible food items accept SNAP benefits: EBT, Double Up Food Bucks, WIC Produce Connection and Senior Market Fresh.
Vendors sell a variety of fresh seasonal produce, food-bearing plants, pastured beef, chicken, and pork, handmade sausages, smoked cheeses and butter, eggs, fruit preserves, pickled veggies, sauces/salsas, soup/dip mix, spices/seasonings, local wildflower honey, elderberry syrup, sea moss smoothies, roasted coffee, fruit infused herbal teas, artisan sourdough and yeast breads, desserts, potted plants, cut flowers, plant-based personal, household, and apothecary products, and all natural pet snacks. The food court offers Mexican, Chinese, Lebanese, and Soul Food options, as well as frozen treats.
The market is open every Thursday from May 14 to October 22, 2026. Marketing/promotion volunteers will complete their tasks by Friday of the week preceding each market. These opportunities are ideal for persons studying (or seeking experience in) journalism, communications, social media marketing, digital storytelling, content strategy, online community building, audience engagement, etc. After an initial zoom call with instructions, work can be done remotely. Volunteers compile information from online sources and conduct interviews to write vendor, volunteer, or sponsor spotlights to be published on Mondays. They'll also create posts to elicity engagement and feedback from users on a variety of community social media pages. Opportunities can be one time or ongoing as part of a summer internship.
