The Eastside Community Action Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit service organization dedicated to providing basic human services to the vulnerable, at-risk community, as well as offering innovative programs, services and initiatives that aim to remove institutional barriers to self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life for Lansing residents of all ages.
As a Youth Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in creating a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for at-risk youth during after-school hours. Your primary responsibility will be to assist in facilitating a variety of educational, recreational, and enrichment activities that contribute to the holistic development of our program participants.
Position Responsibilities
- Provide homework help/tutoring to students who are often below their reading level and struggling with learning concepts.
- Support the Program Coordinator in organizing and supervising daily activities for participants in grades K-8.
- Assist in planning and implementing educational sessions, recreational games, arts and crafts, and other engaging activities that align with the program's goals.
- Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages social interaction, learning, and creativity among program participants.
- Provide individualized support to children with diverse needs, ensuring that all participants can actively participate and benefit from the program.
- Help maintain a clean and organized program space, including setting up and cleaning up after activities.
- Supervise participants during snack and meal times, promoting healthy eating habits and a respectful dining environment.
- Collaborate with fellow staff members to ensure a seamless program flow and address any challenges that may arise.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and caregivers to provide updates on participant progress and program activities.
Responsibilities Include:
- Oversee activities or sports for students
- Help to run creative, cultural, craft and music activities with the children
- Escort and oversee children
- Educate children through games and explorations
- Set up and maintain equipment
- Resolve occasional fights between children and address behavioral issues
- Make sure all safety rules are followed
- Perform first aid or take care of injuries as needed
- Keep accurate incident logs
